The ruling Saenuri Party has welcomed Seoul and Pyongyang’s decision to hold a government meeting this week and stressed the importance of sincerity in the dialogue.
Hwang Woo-yea, the ruling party chairman, said at a Supreme Council meeting on Monday that the government must engage in the talks in a calm, steady manner, as there is much to be done to build trust between the two Koreas.
He added that the inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation must expand in depth and scope based on a foundation of sincerity.
Ruling Saenuri Party Floor Leader Choi Kyoung-hwan said there may be side effects if the government pressures the dialogue too much by trying to speed it up or placing too many items on the agenda. He emphasized the importance of taking a step-by-step approach.
Choi also said he expects the National Assembly's engagement in the exchanges between the two Koreas to be discussed if this week's meeting is successful and leads to the Park administration’s Korean Peninsula trust process gaining momentum.
