President Park Geun-hye says she expects South and North Korea to take their first steps toward building mutual trust and establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula through inter-Korean government-level talks on Wednesday and Thursday.
In a Cabinet meeting at the presidential office Tuesday, the president hoped that the South and North will cooperate in discussing a pile of knotty issues and produce good results that the people want to see.
Meanwhile, ruling Saenuri Party Chairman Hwang Woo-yea said in a radio interview Tuesday morning that the two Koreas should address political issues one by one. He said that they should first focus on the suspended Gaeseong Industrial Complex in the government-level talks that will be held in Seoul on Wednesday and Thursday.
The main opposition Democratic Party’s floor leader Jun Byung-hun said that both Koreas should not rush to resolve all issues at once in the government-level talks, warning that their hastiness and excessive ambition could break up the meeting. In a party meeting Tuesday, Jun hoped that the two Koreas will make the meeting productive by trusting and respecting each other.
