Hong Myung-bo Chosen as New Coach of Nat’l Soccer Team

The Korea Football Association has chosen Hong Myung-bo as the new coach of South Korea’s national soccer team.

The association announced its decision following a meeting Monday at the National Football Center in Paju.

Hong will lay out his ideas on how to manage and lead the Red Devils in a news conference on Tuesday.

The association confirmed a list of four candidates for the position last week, but it did not reveal the names of the three other contenders.

Hong was the captain of the famous South Korean squad that made it to the semi-final of the 2002 World Cup, which was hosted by South Korea and Japan. He also managed the nation’s Olympic soccer team that won a bronze medal in London last year.
