N. Korean Leader Focused Public Activities on Economy Since April

A new report finds that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un focused on economy-related activities rather than military ones since April.

According to the report issued by the Unification Ministry on Kim's public activities, the reclusive leader took part in 95 public activities between January and June 24th. Last year, he participated in 81 public activities in the first half and 70 in the second half.

Between January and March, half of the activities he took part in were related to inspecting military facilities. But from April, such inspections only accounted for 15 percent of Kim's activities. Instead, inspections related to the economy, which had accounted for only ten percent of all his activities until March, came to take up 47 percent of Kim's public activities between April and this month.

The report also found that Kim's uncle Jang Song-thaek, who had ranked first in terms of accompanying Kim to such public activities last year, ranked fifth this year while Vice Marshal Choe Ryong-hae came in first place after accompanying Kim to 72 public activities out of the total 95.
