Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae has stressed North Korea must not neglect the truth behind issues regarding South Korean nationals it abducted during the Korean War. 

The minister made the remark Friday at a ceremony in Seoul remembering South Korean abductees. The event was organized by an association of family members of South Koreans who were taken to the North during the Korean War.

Ryoo said the North must cooperate with Seoul's efforts to overcome their tragic history. 

It marked the first time a unification minister has taken part in the event held in memory of South Korean abductees. The event has been held every year since 2010.
