Pyongyang has blasted President Park Geun-hye for her comments on North Korea during her state visit to China.
In an interview with the Korean Central News Agency on Monday, the spokesman for the North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland denounced President Park for urging the North to stop its nuclear weapons program.
The official raised issue with her calls urging North Korea to change, such as remarks regarding new inter-Korean relations and a new Korean Peninsula. The news agency also cited the spokesman as claiming that it is the South that must first change.
The spokesman also said President Park is trying to rely on foreign powers to disarm North Korea and change the regime through anti-North international cooperation. The spokesman then added her trials are a hopeless dream and that Pyongyang is watching Park with its last remaining patience.
The spokesman also commented on the South Korean National Intelligence Service's recent disclosure of the transcript of the 2007 inter-Korean summit, questioning if his regime would be able to hold reliable talks with South Korean authorities.
Following the North's comments, South Korean unification ministry spokesman Kim Hyung-seok said in a regular news briefing Monday it is regrettable North Korea again directly mentioned the president’s name and used inappropriate expressions on the head of a country.
