A South Korean has been elected as the sixth director-general of the World Health Organization. Lee Jong-wook won more than half of the votes ... beating out Belgium's Peter Pioton in the closely fought race held in Geneva Tuesday. This is the first time a South Korean has been named to head a U-N agency. Lee will take office in July for a five-year term after the organization approves the executive board's voting in its 56th annual general assembly in May. Lee has been heading the WHO's Stop Tuberculosis Program since December 2000 and also served as special assistant for outgoing director-general Gro Harlem Brundtland.
