'Seoul Not Aimed at Taming North Korea'

Seoul's Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae says that South Korea's policies toward North Korea are not aimed at taming the regime.

The unification minister made the remarks on Thursday at an appointment ceremony for key officials of the National Unification Advisory Council.

While the South Korean government was waiting for the North's response to its proposal for working-level talks extended earlier in the day, the unification minister used the media opportunity to elaborate on Seoul's plan to establish sustainable South-North relations.

Ryoo said that the South wants to resolve pending issues with the North through dialogue although it will not respond to Pyongyang's unfair demands.

He also stressed that the South Korean government is firmly rooted in its principles on the North.
