South and North Korea are preparing for the upcoming inter-Korean talks to be held on Wednesday at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The two Koreas began working-level coordination for the meeting through their liaison officers at the truce village of Panmunjeom Monday morning.
Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Hyung-seok said in a news briefing Monday that the government will do its best to make Wednesday’s talks a stepping stone toward the normalization of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
Through previous contacts, Seoul has made it clear that it will seek during the talks "constructive development" for the operation of the park and called for preventing a political factor causing operational suspension in the future.
Expecting the complete normalization of the suspended inter-Korean joint venture to take some time, the South Korean government is also said to be taking a two-track approach by separating more and less pressing issues.
After wrapping up the first round of talks with the North early morning Sunday, Seoul's chief delegate to the talks Suh Ho sat down with representatives of Gaeseong firms later in the day and discussed details related to their planned visit to the factory park.
