North Korea has proposed holding talks with South Korea on resuming tours to Mount Geumgang and organizing reunions for separated families.
Through its liaison official in the truce village of Panmunjeom, the North conveyed its invitation for working-level talks Wednesday afternoon.
It proposed discussing the issue of resuming the tours to the scenic mountain resort next Wednesday and talks on family reunions next Friday. The North suggested Mount Geumgang and Gaeseong as possible venues for the two meetings.
Seoul responded that it is willing to discuss family reunions in accordance with the humanitarian spirit, asking to meet instead on the South’s side of the truce village.
The government, however, took a cautious stance on the North's proposal for discussing the tour program to the North, which has been suspended since the shooting death of a South Korean tourist in the North Korean resort in 2008.
Seoul said it wants to maintain its focus on the issue of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
