South and North Korea have agreed to hold their third round of working-level talks on Monday and continue their discussions on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The two Koreas reached the decision on Wednesday as they failed to agree on ways to normalize the operation of the factory park during their second round of discussions.
Seoul's chief delegate to the talks Suh Ho told reporters after the meeting in the North that the two sides extensively explained their stances on the inter-Korean factory park which has been suspended for more than three months.
He said that the two Koreas will review each other's positions before meeting for a third round of talks. Suh also stressed that despite such differences, the two Koreas share the view that the Gaeseong complex must be maintained and developed.
During Tuesday’s talks, South Korea demanded that North Korea address its stance on the issue of preventing another shutdown of the inter-Korean factory park. Seoul also stressed that the two Koreas should develop the inter-Korean venture into an international project for its stable growth.
North Korea, on the other hand, tried to place a different emphasis on the issue, urging South Korea to stop all activities that hinder the normalization of the industrial park. While specifically citing the June 15 Joint Declaration as a guideline to that end, the North also called for the swift resumption of operations at Gaeseong.
