President Park Geun-hye says she will not tolerate a vicious cycle of the Gaseseong Industrial Complex shutting down and starting up.
Park made the remark in an interview with French global affairs magazine "Politique Internationale" whose summer edition came out Friday.
She told the magazine that North Korea halted the operation of the inter-Korean business venture, so it's the North's responsibility to resolve the suspension.
She also stressed that Seoul will not agree to a makeshift compromise with the North just to normalize the complex.
The president explained that efforts will be made to bring international rules and principles to the factory park. She said this may take time but such efforts will eventually benefit Pyongyang in the long term.
The South Korean president also said that if the Gaeseong venture ends in failure, no country or company in the world including South Korea will trust North Korea to invest there.
Park was interviewed last Tuesday and the presidential office in Seoul released her comments on Sunday after the magazine's publication.
