WTF to Use Octagonal Arenas for Int'l Martial Art Competitions

The World Taekwondo Federation will soon hold its international martial art competitions in octagonal arenas.

The Taekwondo authority unanimously approved a revision to its rules in a general meeting held in Puebla, Mexico on Monday, Korea time.

Under the revision, the federation will host matches at octagonal arenas in addition to the current eight-by-eight meter square ones. Many experts tout the use of octagon-shaped arenas due to a reduced number of blind spots for referees.

At the meeting, the WTF also accepted Botswana, Sierra Leone, Curacao, and South Sudan as new members. Kosovo also joined the federation as a provisional member.

The total number of WTF members accordingly rose to 205.
