Koreas at Odds Over Preventing Future Gaeseong Park Shutdown

South Korea’s representative to talks on the Gaeseong Industrial Complex says some progress was made in the latest meeting though the South and North remain largely at odds.

Seoul's chief delegate, Kim Ki-woong, told reporters after the meeting in the North Korean city of Gaeseong Monday that it is too early to say the talks have reached a turning point.

Kim said the meeting focused on ways to prevent future shutdowns of the complex and safety guarantees for South Koreans and their assets in the park.

The two sides are said to have widely disagreed over the North preventing a future shutdown of the joint industrial park.

The meeting also addressed ways to attract foreign companies to the complex and how to make it an international operation.

The next round of talks will be held on Thursday.
