Koreas Fail to Reach Agreement at 6th Gaeseong Talks

South and North Korea ended another round of talks Thursday on the resumption of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex without striking a deal.

An official of Seoul’s Unification Ministry said the sixth meeting on Gaeseong ended around 5:20 p.m. It is known that no date was announced for another meeting.

North Korea's chief delegate Pak Chol-su spoke to South Korean reporters without notice after the meeting and said the negotiations are on the verge of breaking down. Pak also warned North Korea will inevitably have to send troops to Gaeseong if the complex doesn’t reopen.

Seoul reiterated during the talks that the North is responsible for the shutdown of the inter-Korean joint venture and it needs to promise it won’t happen again.

Pyongyang is known to have repeatedly called for the prompt resumption of operations at the factory park without taking responsibility for the shutdown or providing measures to prevent a recurrence.
