DP Rep. Urges 'Brave' Decision from N. Korea on Gaeseong Complex

Democratic Party (DP) Rep. Park Ji-won has sent a letter to North Korea urging it to make a brave decision to normalize the suspended Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

The opposition heavyweight said Thursday he sent the letter to secretaries of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, Kim Ki-nam and Kim Yang-gon.

He asked the North to make a “broad-minded” decision for the normalization of the factory park, calling it the symbol of peace and economic exchanges between the Koreas.

Park lamented the current situation, noting his role in facilitating a 2006 inter-Korean summit between former President Kim Dae-jung and then North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.

The lawmaker met with the two North Korean party secretaries when they visited Seoul as part of a North Korean condolence delegation for the death of former President Kim Dae-jung in August 2009. Park currently heads a special parliamentary committee on inter-Korean relations.
