S. Korean Firms Rally Over Suspended Gaeseong Complex

South Korean companies held a rally Wednesday to demand their operations resume at the shuttered Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.

An emergency committee representing the Gaeseong firms met at Imjingak Park in Paju, Gyeonggi Province. Some 500 people including the heads and senior officials of the South Korean businesses were there.

They again urged North Korea to accept Seoul’s offer for working-level talks on normalizing operations at the complex and to promise to prevent future shutdowns. They also asked the Seoul government to establish compensation and support measures in case the inter-Korean joint venture closes.

The committee said it will begin a public campaign to gather the signatures of one million supporters.
