The ruling Saenuri Party has welcomed the resumption of inter-Korean talks on the suspended Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
In a meeting of the party’s Supreme Council Thursday, Floor Leader Rep. Choi Kyung-hwan said it is fortunate inter-Korean talks will be held again to rekindle hopes of normalizing the factory park.
Choi urged the North to show a forward-looking attitude on preventing future shutdowns of the inter-Korean joint venture. He asked the two countries to be serious and sincere in negotiations to resolve the knotty issue.
Supreme Council member Rep. Yoo Ki-june said the North's statement on Wednesday still shows Pyongyang is unwilling to resume full responsibility for the shutdown.
Yoo called for a direct promise from North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for no more shutdowns of the factory park. He said if North Korea is serious, Kim Jong-un should directly guarantee the Gaeseong Industrial Complex will not be unilaterally closed in the future.
