As North Korea announced that it will accept Seoul's offer to hold inter-Korean family reunions, ruling and opposition parties have welcomed the decision.
Ruling Saenuri Party Spokeswoman Rep. Min Hyun-joo told reporters that her party welcomes the North's latest move, calling it a wise decision. She added that the ruling party highly evaluates the Park Geun-hye administration's Korean Peninsula trust building process.
While expressing a hope for successful talks leading up to the reunions, the spokeswoman, however, cautioned that discussing the resumption of South Korea's tours to Mount Geumgang should be focused on guaranteeing the safety of South Korean tourists.
Main opposition Democratic Party (DP) spokesman Rep. Park Yong-jin has also welcomed the North's acceptance of family reunion talks. He said it's meaningful to observe issues in inter-Korean dialogue untangle one after another.
The DP spokesman said inter-Korean exchange and humanitarian projects were ruined under the Lee Myung-bak administration, and the incumbent administration should now resolve issues and revive stalled projects.
