S.Korea Approves Visit by Young N.Koreans to Gwangju Event

Young North Koreans will visit South Korea to attend an event jointly hosted by a UN organization and the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade organizing committee.

Gwangju Mayor Kang Un-tae on Monday told reporters that the Unification Ministry has approved a trip to the South by three young North Koreans and one North Korean official, who plan to attend the Youth Leadership Program.

A total of 34 youths from 19 Asian countries, including three North Koreans, will participate in the program, which will be held at Honam University.

The North Koreans are expected to enter South Korea via Incheon International Airport and arrive at the university on Wednesday.

The program, jointly hosted by the organizing committee and the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace, is aimed at fostering youths from developing or war-stricken countries into young leaders.

The program provides theoretical and practical training on sports, peace, education, and people with disabilities.
