The Unification Ministry says South and North Korea appear to have similar positions on creating a joint committee to oversee operations of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
A ministry official on Tuesday told reporters that Seoul has examined the first draft for the creation of the joint committee sent Monday by the North and it appears to contain only minor differences from the South’s plan.
The official said Seoul will send its draft to Pyongyang as soon as possible after reflecting the North’s proposal in its draft and adding a few ideas.
The two Koreas on Wednesday agreed on a five-point accord to reopen the suspended Gaeseong Industrial Complex. The deal includes the establishment of a joint committee that will implement the two sides' agreements regarding the operation of the complex.
The committee will also discuss compensating South Korean firms that suffered losses due to the prolonged operational stall of their factories in the North.
