S. Korea's Under-14 Soccer Team Wins Gold at Asian Youth Games

South Korea’s Under-14 soccer team has won the gold medal at the Second Asian Youth Games in China.

The national side beat Iran 1-0 at the final match on Friday held in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing.

Kim Jungmin scored the only goal on a penalty kick 12 minutes into the second half.

Friday's feat marks the second time the South Korean U-14 soccer team took the gold at the Asian Youth Games. The previous event was held in Singapore in 2009.

North Korea's U-14 team also performed well, edging Iraq 6-5 to win the bronze medal.

The South Korean youth team will come back home on Sunday after attending the closing ceremony on Saturday.

The Asian Youth Games, featuring 17 sports, opened in Nanjing on Friday last week.

The quadrennial event is widely regarded as the dress-rehearsal for the Summer Youth Olympics, which will be held in 2014 in the same Chinese city.
