The two Koreas are holding the first meeting of their joint committee tasked with managing the Gaeseong Industrial Complex. The inter-Korean business venture has been suspended for five months.
The meeting is expected to focus on when to restart complex operations following South and North Korea’s decision last month to reopen it. The two sides formed the joint committee to discuss ways for the constructive development of the inter-Korean factory zone.
Before leaving for Gaeseong, the South's head of the joint committee, Kim Ki-woong, told reporters Monday’s talks signal a new start for the complex. He said he will do his best to make the complex globally competitive so South Koreans can freely do business there and foreign business people would want to join.
Kim, four other South Korean committee members, support staff and a media crew left Seoul around 6:40 a.m. for the North Korean border city.
