S. Korea Approves Weightlifters' Trip to N. Korea

The government has approved South Korean weightlifters to go to North Korea for the 2013 Asian Cup and Interclub Weightlifting Championship.

The Unification Ministry says the 41-member delegation of athletes from seven South Korean weightlifting teams and officials of the Korea Weightlifting Federation will stay in Pyongyang from next Thursday through the 18th.

North Korea is allowing South Korea’s flag to be flown and national anthem played on its soil for the first time.

The ministry said it approved the trip considering the event is an international competition organized by the Asian Weightlifting Federation, and the North guaranteed the safety of the South Korean athletes.
