South and North Korea have agreed to restart the operations of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex from Monday.
The two sides reached the agreement after marathon negotiations held from Tuesday morning to early morning Wednesday at the inter-Korean factory park in the North.
The resumption of the park's operations comes 136 days after South Korean workers had to leave the complex in the North.
At the second meeting of their joint committee on managing the inter-Korean industrial park, the two Koreas also adopted a joint statement under which they agreed to set up a secretariat of their committee. The two sides plan to launch the operations of the secretariat within this month.
Under Tuesday’s accord, the two Koreas also agreed to hold an investment promotion event in mid-October for foreign companies operating in the South so they can join the industrial complex.
The two sides will also allow South Koreans' entry into the complex at all times on a daily basis, and exempt taxes due this year for South Korean firms hit hard by the suspension of operations as a compensation measure.
On unpaid wages for North Korean laborers, the two sides agreed to carry out further consultations.
