South Korean businesses with factories at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex are urging Seoul and Pyongyang to help them normalize their business management.
The call came after the two Koreas reached an agreement to resume the operation of the inter-Korean venture next Monday. The complex in North Korea has not been running since April.
An emergency committee representing the South Korean businesses said in a plenary meeting it will take up to three years for them to recoup all the losses incurred by the suspension of the factory park.
The committee called on Seoul to compensate the companies for the losses, provide financial support and help them regain trust from their business partners.
It also urged the North to make efforts to enhance productivity at the factory zone.
A committee official said most South Korean businesses are ready to resume operations at their factories. He added textile and garment companies will be able to run their factories at full capacity from Monday.
Most of the companies plan to take only a day off during the five-day Korean thanksgiving holiday of Chuseok next week.
After the plenary session on Wednesday afternoon, operation of the association of the Gaeseong firms was also normalized as the emergency committee was disbanded.
