North Korea is blaming South Korea for Pyongyang’s decision to abruptly delay inter-Korean family reunions and working-level talks on resuming tours to the North’s Mount Geumgang resort.
The North's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland accused South Korea on Sunday of instigating inter-Korean confrontation, following Seoul’s statement a day earlier calling the delay an “act against humanity.”
North Korea also claimed the South is trying to evade responsibility and prevent cross-border ties from improving. The committee said South Korea has nothing to say about humanitarianism as humanitarian projects have mainly been led by North Korean efforts up until now.
The committee added future inter-Korean ties fully rely on the South Korean government's attitude.
On Saturday, the committee said family reunions will be put off until proper conditions for dialogue are met. Pyongyang's sudden announcement came as the two sides were fine-tuning details of accommodations for South Koreans to visit the North and reunite with family members separated by the Korean War.
