A permanent secretariat for the Gaeseong Industrial Complex management committee officially opened at 10 a.m. Monday.
The secretariat’s office is on the sixth floor of the inter-Korean joint business venture’s support center within the factory park in North Korea.
The secretariat was agreed to as an operative arm of the joint committee when the two Koreas reached a deal on August 28th to restart the Gaeseong factory zone.
The secretariat will be staffed by officials from both sides.
Senior Unification Ministry official Lee Joo-tae was appointed as the South Korean head of the secretariat. North Korea’s side will be led by Yun Seung-hyeon, a director of the Gaesong Industrial District Management Committee.
A Unification Ministry official in Seoul says the secretariat will be in charge of the practical operation of the Gaeseong complex joint committee, including scheduling subcommittee meetings to discuss passage, communications and customs.
