Korean Films Sell Over 100 Mln Tickets for Second Yr

Ticket sales for Korean films cleared the 100-million mark on Friday for the second year in a row as the domestic industry continues to churn out blockbusters.

The Korean Film Council says South Korean box offices combined to reach the landmark figure 47 days earlier than last year.

Industry experts predict ticket sales will exceed 2012’s record of 114 million by the end of this year.

The growing sales are largely attributable to a string of hit films, such as "Miracle in Cell Number Seven" and "Snowpiercer." Both drew more than nine million moviegoers. Already this year eight films have sold more than five million tickets.
