Typhoon Danas Postpones 3-nation Naval Drill

A joint naval drill with South Korea, the U.S. and Japan has been postponed due to Typhoon Danas.

The three-day drill was scheduled to start Tuesday off the southern coast of the Korean Peninsula.

South Korean Aegis ships, destroyers and escort vessels and U.S. aircraft carrier the USS George Washington were supposed to take part in the exercise. Japan was also set to send Aegis ships and escort vessels.

A military official said the drill will likely be delayed for at least two days until the typhoon moves out of the region.

South Korea’s Defense Ministry said the three-nation drill is aimed at promoting cooperation in search and rescue missions in the event of disasters at sea.
