N. Korea Calls for Unification Based on Federal System

North Korea has reiterated that reunification based on a federal system is the most reasonable way to unify the two Koreas.

The Rodong Sinmun, an organ of the North’s Workers' Party, stressed the legitimacy of its proposal in an article on Friday and criticized the Park Geun-hye administration for seeking to merge the two Koreas’ political systems as the previous government did.

Citing differences in the two sides' ideologies and systems, the paper claimed the Korean Peninsula trust-building process pursued by the Park government pushes for change in the North, but such a move undermines the North’s socialism.

The daily said distrust and confrontation between the two Koreas will not end as long as the South continues to ignore the people’s wishes for reunification based on the federal system and pushes for a merger of the two Koreas’ political systems.
