Humanitarian Institution Boosts Budget for N. Korea to $7.1 Mln

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has increased its budget to North Korea for 2014 by around half a million dollars.

The humanitarian institution says it allocated seven-and-a-half billion won or some seven-point-one million dollars to support North Korea, up from this year’s six-point-six million dollars.

The IFRC carries out various projects in the North in areas such as health, hygiene and disaster relief.

In its World Disaster Report, the federation said over three million North Koreans were displaced and 147 were killed in disasters last year.

Many North Koreans are known to have lost their homes last year due to summer flooding followed by typhoons.
