N. Korea Agrees to Gaeseong Committee Talks with S. Korea

North Korea has accepted South Korea’s request for working-level talks next week on increasing the competitiveness of the inter-Korean factory park in Gaeseong.

The Ministry of Unification said Pyongyang told Seoul through the Gaeseong Industrial Complex joint management committee secretariat that it wants to hold three subcommittee meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

A South Korean official said North Korea proposed meetings of sub-panels related to investment protection, internationalization, and rules governing people in Gaeseong.

The official said the investment and internationalization panel will be held on Wednesday, and the talks aimed at enhancing the rights of workers will follow on Thursday.

The official also said Pyongyang did not give a date for holding a meeting on travel, communications and customs. But he added Seoul welcomed the North’s move and said it hopes the meeting on travel will be held soon.
