South Korea will dispatch non-combat troops to Iraq if and when war breaks out in the Middle Eastern country. A Defense Ministry spokesman said Tuesday that the United States has not asked the Seoul government to send any "COMBAT" troops adding that Washington would not make such a demand. He said if the United States requests assistance in the war, the South Korean government would consider sending only non-combatant troops such as transportation and medical units as it did during wars in the Gulf and Afghanistan. In November, the United States tapped the possibility of South Korea sending non-combat troops to Iraq in unofficial diplomatic letters sent to 50 nations, including South Korea.
