Park In-bee Becomes First S. Korean LPGA Player of the Year

Park In-bee has become the first South Korean to clinch the LPGA Player of the Year award.

Park earned the points to capture the honor on Sunday with an 11-under par, fourth-place finish at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.

She held off Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, who finished one stroke behind in a tie for fifth place.

South Koreans on the LPGA tour have won other awards in the past, including rookie of the year and the Vare Trophy, which is given to the golfer with the lowest average number of strokes a round on the tour.

The 25-year-old Park won six tournaments this season including winning three straight majors.
