South Korea plans to purchase four airborne early warning and control systems from the United States. The Defense Ministry said it will buy the AWACS aircraft beginning in Two-thousand-five. The one and a half billion U.S. dollar project is part of the ministry's "mid-term defense plan." The ministry is hoping to deploy the aircraft by Two-thousand-eleven.
