Korean Salvation Army Sets Red Kettle Target at $5.2 Mln

The Salvation Army will kick off its donation campaign next week in Seoul Plaza with its annual ringing of the bells ceremony.

Next Wednesday's ceremony is to draw attention to the charity's Red Kettle campaign, which will begin taking donations on December second at 350 spots throughout the country.

The Salvation Army set this year’s target at five-and-a-half billion won, or about five-point-two million dollars.

It says donations can also be made with credit cards or on the Internet.

The charity drive enables the Salvation Army to provide food, toys and clothing to over 6 million people during the holiday season. The first Red Kettle in Korea was set up in Myeongdong, downtown Seoul on December 15th, 1928.
