South Korea is submitting a special TV program for inception on the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. KBS hosted the program in 1983 to help Koreans living in the South reunite after being separated by the Korean War.

The Cultural Heritage Administration said on Tuesday it will apply to UNESCO next March. It said the program is a valuable record of the nation’s unique modern history as it reveals the pains of the divided Koreas.

A panel of experts and the International Advisory Committee (IAC) determine what items are accepted to the register. An announcement on acceptance will not be made until June 2015.

Around 53-thousand South Koreans appeared on the program, which was broadcast live for 136 days.
