South and North Korea have agreed to launch efforts next week to set up a radio frequency identification (RFID) system to speed up passage to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in North Korea.
 
A Unification Ministry official said the two Koreas reached the agreement on Friday at a meeting in Gaeseong of the inter-Korean joint management committee’s subcommittee on passage, communication and customs.
 
The two Koreas aim to have the system in place this year to facilitate employees of South Korean companies coming in and out of the complex.
 
The ministry official said though the aim is to operate the RFID system this year, weather conditions could delay construction work and the use of the system.
 
In the area of customs, the two Koreas agreed to have working-level officials visit the industrial complex next week to streamline procedures on inspecting finished products.
