Korean History Textbook Publishers Submit Additional Revisions

A group of South Korean book publishers have submitted additional revisions for their history texts as ordered by the Education Ministry.

The ministry said the seven publishers submitted the latest revisions on Wednesday, and it will give final approval by the end of the week.

However, all of the publishers except Kyohak Publishing have filed a court petition asking for the ministry’s order to be canceled. They say the order is unreasonable.

The same six publishers also plan to file a petition to reveal who sits on the ministry task force reviewing the textbooks. They also plan to ask for a release of the task force’s minutes.

In October, the task force recommended eight textbook publishers make 829 revisions. The publishers followed up, but the ministry said last week that 41 revisions from seven of the eight books still need further correction.
