Human Remains from 6th Century Discovered in Gyeongju

A wooden coffin with human remains inside from the sixth century have been found in Gyeongju city, North Gyeongsang Province.

The Cultural Heritage Administration said Thursday that the coffin from the Silla Dynasty was found underground at a construction site in Gyeongju.

The administration said this is the first time a one of these coffins has been discovered with much of the wood still intact.

Eleven earthenware items were also found inside.

The administration said the ancient remains will contribute to the study of Silla Dynasty burial customs.
