N. Korea Begins to Describe Kim Jong-un as

North Korea has begun to use the term “Great Leader” for Kim Jong-un as it had with its previous leader.

KBS studied recent photographs and images issued by North Korean media and found banners referring to Kim as the “Great Leader.” Previously, the North had only used that term for Kim’s father, Kim Jong-il.

A red banner stating “Hail Great Leader Kim Jong-un” was spotted in a photograph printed last Friday on the first page of the Rodong Sinmun of the North's ruling Workers' Party.

On December first, the Korean Central Television covered a story on the building of a mosaic mural of North Korean founder Kim Il-sung and his son Kim Jong-il in North Hwanghae Province. In that story as well, an image of a large placard was shown stating Kim Jong-un as Great Leader.

A Unification Ministry official in Seoul said the North apparently decided to call Kim Jong-un great leader to solidify its monolithic leadership upon the second anniversary of the launch of Kim Jong-un’s regime.
