Hong Vows to Lead Team Korea to World Cup Round of 16

The coach of South Korea’s national soccer team, Hong Myung-bo, has vowed to lead the team into the round of 16 at the 2014 Brazil World Cup.

Hong made the pledge upon arriving at Incheon International Airport on Thursday from Brazil where he attended the World Cup draw.

Hong said it is important to recognize the South Korean team’s current status rather than analyzing opponents. Hong said he will first focus on improving the team’s shortcomings, noting South Korea is regarded to rank third in Group H among Belgium, Russia and Algeria.

Hong said he will work to live up to the Korean fans’ expectations.

Hong plans to review the competitiveness of K-league players during off-season training in January before holding an exhibition match in March. He plans to complete player selection in May ahead of next June's World Cup.
