The government says North Korea is following the planned course of action regarding the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex despite recent political turmoil.
Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do said Friday that the North proposed a fourth meeting of the complex’s joint committee on Thursday, the same day it is believed Kim Jong-un’s uncle was executed.
He said the South agreed to the offer for a meeting at the Gaeseong park next Thursday.
The spokesman also said the North also accepted a visit to the complex by delegates of the Group of 20 member states and international finance organizations.
In the wake of news reports about Jang Song-thaek’s death, the spokesman said the death is an internal North Korean issue and Pyongyang is taking a separate approach to the joint factory park. He added he expects the North to continue with such an approach.
Seoul's Foreign Ministry and Australia's Treasury will jointly host the G-20 Seoul Conference on Wednesday and Thursday.
Vice foreign ministers of Russia and five other G20 members as well as International Monetary Fund officials will attend the conference and attempt to visit the North Korean complex on the sidelines of the event.
