US Says No Change Made in Policy on N. Korea

The U.S. government has again denounced the execution of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s uncle, Jang Song-thaek, while stressing that no changes have been made in its key policy on Pyongyang.

U.S. State Department Deputy Spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters on Friday that Jang’s execution is indicative of the North Korean government’s “low regard for human life,” and “underscores the horrific human rights record of the North Korean regime.”

She added that Washington is going to increase discussions with allies and partners in the region, including South Korea, Japan and China about the internal situation in the North.

Harf stressed that the U.S. remains “focused on the need for North Korea to denuclearize.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. is likely to add a new radar to detect long-range missiles from North Korea. The U.S. Congress passed a bill on Thursday, local time, to allocate 30 million dollars for the Missile Defense Agency to initiate deployment.
