Inter-Korean Trade Recovers to Near Level of Last Year

Inter-Korean trade has recovered to around 90 percent of last year’s level since the reopening of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in September.

The Unification Ministry and the Korea Customs Service said inter-Korean trade stood at over 155 million U.S. dollars in November. That is 87-point-two percent of the same month last year and 94-point-four percent of last year’s average monthly inter-Korean trade.

The Gaeseong Industrial Complex currently accounts for all inter-Korean trade, since other inter-Korean economic cooperation projects have been halted since May 2010.

Inter-Korean trade was brought to a complete halt with the shutdown of the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in April. But it has been bouncing back to the levels of previous years since the operation of the factory park resumed in mid-September.
