A team from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) arrived here Thursday for an inspection of the bid by Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, to host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The 20-member team, led by Norwegian IOC member Gerhard Heiberg, will begin the survey Friday by watching presentations by bid organizers. They are scheduled to hold a news conference Monday after wrapping up the four-day inspection tour of sports facilities in Pyeongchang and its adjacent cities Gangneung, Wonju, Jeongseon and Hoengseong. Pyeongchang's bid committee said it will focus on the city's merits perfect natural conditions for winter sports, sufficient accommodation facilities, and convenient location. Organizers of the bid say the city is only an hour's travel to all venues and is easily accessible from Seoul. The committee added that the committee expects enthusiastic support from the central government and local residents, and Pyeongchang's own program to develop winter sports would also be of help to the city to win the international bid.
