North Korea has threatened to attack South Korea without notice to protest anti-North Korea rallies staged by South Korea’s conservative groups.
The Defense Ministry said Friday the North issued the threat in a message sent to the presidential national security office the day before. The ministry noted the message was in the name of the North’s National Defense Commission.
The North also took issue with rallies held by conservative South Korean groups that burned photos of former North Korean leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il and current leader Kim Jong-un. The groups held the rallies on Tuesday which marked the second anniversary of Kim Jong-il’s death.
The South Korean government said it will respond sternly if the North engages in provocations.
On November 23rd, which marked the third anniversary of the North’s shelling of Yeonpyeong Island, Pyongyang threatened to turn the South into a sea of fire if even one shell falls on North Korea’s territorial waters.
