Int'l Taekwondo Championships to Open in Jeonju

The 2013 Jeonju Open International Taekwondo Championships will be held at Jeonju's Hwasan gymnasium this weekend.

Around 13-hundred athletes of the Korean martial art from 15 countries will compete in youth, adult and senior competitions. China, France, India and the UK are among the 15 countries competing.

There will be three events: A-match sparring, A-match "pumsae" and competitive pumsae. Pumsae is a pattern of defense-and-attack motions and techniques.

Korean athletes Seo Yeong-ae and Lee Sang-jae will compete in the pumsae events. Seo won seven straight titles in world championships while Lee won a bronze medal in the recent taekwondo World Cup.
