President Moon Jae-in has named former national security adviser Chung Eui-yong as the new foreign minister.

The presidential office on Wednesday announced a three-person Cabinet reshuffle, including the replacement of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha with Chung.

The decision to replace Kang, the only inaugural minister left on the Moon Cabinet, came ahead of the imminent launch of the Joe Biden administration in the U.S.

The top office also nominated ruling Democratic Party lawmakers Hwang Hee and Kwon Chil-seung for culture, sports and tourism minister and SMEs and startups minister.

SMEs Minister Park Young-sun offered her resignation earlier in the day in an apparent move to run for the Seoul mayoral election in April.
